Santana Jiménez, born in Oklahoma, grew up in a nurturing small-town art community. Employing bodily gesture, audio, ready-made sculpture, and language to activate her lens-based work, she engages with the intricacies of America’s contemporary and historical discord surrounding the progress of women and those with vaginas. As an advocate for keeping feminist concerns at the forefront of the collective consciousness, she confronts uncomfortable truths and pushes boundaries to stimulate introspection and vital conversations. Her work converses with a lineage of women who have preceded her. Yet to transcend mere homage; she seeks to propel the doctrine initiated by these pioneers into contemporary discourse, exploring their enduring relevance within the socio-political sphere. In tandem, she challenges herself to maintain critical thinking, authentic creation, and genuine existence.
